Welcome to the Website of the Carmelite Fathers in West Bengal and Northeast India
We are the Discalced Carmelite Fathers (OCD) serving in the Regional Vicariate of West Bengal and Northeast India, belonging to the South Kerala Province of the Order.
Inspired by the spirit of St. Teresa of Ávila and St. John of the Cross, we follow the contemplative charism of the Carmelite Order — a life rooted in deep prayer, fraternal communion, and apostolic service. Our presence in this region began in 1997–1998 as a missionary outreach, and today we joyfully celebrate over 25 years of God’s faithfulness in this beautiful and diverse part of India.

Our Mission & Presence
We serve across West Bengal and several states of Northeast India. Our communities are dedicated to:

Evangelization and Pastoral Care in parishes and mission stations
Formation of local vocations — We are blessed with many young men from Northeast India and West Bengal responding to God’s call
Education and Youth Ministry
Social outreach and development work among tribal and rural communities
Contemplative prayer as the heart of all our activities

In January 2017, we witnessed a historic milestone with the first priestly ordinations of four local sons from Northeast India: Fr. Joel Sarkar, Fr. Arvind Tigga, Fr. Anil Tirkey, and Fr. Anil Kerketta. This marked the beginning of a new chapter as the local Church and the Carmelite Order continue to grow together. Our Spirituality
As Carmelites, we draw inspiration from the Prophet Elijah and the Blessed Virgin Mary, our Mother and Queen of Carmel. We strive to live a life of:

Interior prayer and silence
Simplicity and detachment
Zeal for souls
Brotherhood in community

We believe that from contemplation flows compassionate action for the people of God.
